The Riverland is situated 250kms north east of Adelaide with a population of approximately 35,000. The Murray Pioneer was established in 1892 and serves the Riverland and Northern Mallee area of South Australia.
The region is known as South Australia’s fruit bowl – but in addition to the strong history of grape and citrus production, the Riverland is home to a thriving almond industry, and has a growing reputation as a quality wine and food producing region.
The Riverland is a popular tourist destination with numerous fleets of houseboats and a very warm climate to compliment the area as a haven for watersports and river recreation.
The Murray Pioneer, one of SA’s oldest newspapers, was founded in 1892. It is part of the Taylor Group of Newspapers, with sister newspapers in SA’s Riverland at Loxton (The Loxton News), Waikerie (The River News), Pinnaroo (The Border Times) and Gawler (The Bunyip).
